Bruins 5 Whalers 5

The Whalers met the Belfast Bruins at their home rink in Dundonald where a captivating game was played which resulted in an unusual draw. The reason for this was because the game ran late due to a nasty injury where the referree’s hand was cut on a skate blade causing him to be taken to hospital for treatment. The game was continued however and at the end of three periods the score was 5-5 and due to the lack of time for overtime or a penalty shoot-out, the game was ruled a draw by the remaining officials. Bart Gatensby scored twice, Wayne Hopkins and Lucas got a goal each and Clark Caughey got his first goal of the season. The Whalers wish the referee well and hope he has a speedy recovery.

After a long summer break, the Whalers are back for another season! IIHL DL Playoff Final - Dublin Wolves 11 Whalers 5

Having lost the playoff semi-final to Kilkenny Storm, the Whalers arrived back at the Dundalk Ice Dome ready to take on the DKIT Ravens for 3rd/4th place, however a last-second notification arrived from the IHA stating that due to an unintentional rule breakage by Kilkenny Storm during their semi-final, they would have to drop down to the 3rd/4th place playoff game and the Whalers would take their place in the 1st/2nd place playoff final against the Dublin Wolves. Obviously this was a shock to all teams, however it was a sudden boost to the Whalers to suddenly be playing in such a prestigious game against the league champions. According to those who watched the game, it was eventful and dramatic as the Whalers staged a comeback during the second period. However, it was not to be and the Whalers lost to the Wolves 11-5.
